Straight from my school I went to GOAPEX 2019, State level philatelic exhibition at Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji Goa. It was long awaited event for me and could not resist myself from visiting all though it is scheduled till 11 Feb 2019.
The exhibition showcased stamps from different collectors such as Mr. V. R. Navelkar (Topic : Mahatma Gandhi - Man of the millennium), Mr Ravindra Uberoi (Topic : World Wide Fund for nature), Mr Sunil Joshi (Topic : Flying Jewels - Butterflies and Moths), Mr A.K. Naik (Topic : Thematic Collection on PVC and IPCCF ), The frame from Vinayak Awate showed fiscal stamps from Indian Princely States, Miss Urja Neurgaonkar displayed unusual stamps, Stamps on dogs of the world were put on display by Mr Shantilal Hiran, Mr Purshottam G. Bhargave displayed collection of early Indian cancellations and postal markings. There were other collections from Vinayak Joshi, Ashok Sadolkar, Vinit Vaidya, A. K. Naik, Sharad Bora, etc.
There was array of stamps and cover display of Portuguese India Philately, India since Independence, Great Britain, Rest of the world, Inception of the penny black, Language and Literature, India land of unit in Diversity, Mahabharata, Our World, "My life is my message" Mahatma Gandhi, India's relation with foreign countries, Banking and Banks in India, Minerals, Bees, Discovery of the sea route to India, Sir Roland Hill, Coins and Currencies of the world, Different type of first day covers, Philatelic covers with Goan connects, Bio Diversity, Aerogram of Portuguese in India, Volcanoes, Luis de Camois, Yoga, etc. There were stalls put up for sale of foreign currency notes, coins and stamps as well.
I purchased few of them from 30 different countries. Special cover on Stephen Hawking, Homage to Maryrs of 26/11, Vibrant India, Walt Disney's World of Stamp, First day of Issue commemorating 50th Anniversary of US Air force with Gold plated stamp issued in 1997 were some of the new entrants in my collection today.
The display of then existing telegram machine fascinated me the most. Telegram was Communication device used for 160 years till 1990 it used Morse code. The first commercial telegraph developed by William Cooke and Charles Wheatstone in 1837. You can get your own stamp printed at one of the stall. One most visit this Exhibition as annual calendar event.
